Erik Spiekermann, FISTD PPISTD
Erik Spiekermann was ISTD President 2002-05, succeeding the late Colin Banks. He is one of the best-known figures on the international typographic scene. A type designer, and typographic designer, he has built a solid reputation for high quality typography and original, sometimes acerbic, always entertaining, commentary on typographic life.
Now working as an independent design consultant, Spiekermann previously founded both the leading font marketing company FontShop and MetaDesign, a design group specialising in complex, often large, corporate design programmes and information systems. He is a member of the board of directors of the ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale), a member of the Type Directors Club New York, The Art Directors Club, an honorary member of the Typographic Circle London and D&AD. Among the other positions he holds, he is Vice-President of the German Design Council and President of the International Institute for Information Design (IIID). He holds an honorary professorship at the Academy of Arts in Bremen and teaches workshops at design schools across the world.
Graham Walker, Graphic Partners
Graham Walker began his career with EH6 Design Consultants in 1991. During his nine years with EH6 he won numerous creative awards including Scottish Design Awards, Art Director's Club of New York, Clios and Donside Awards, and had work included in Graphis.
In 1999 he moved to Newton EH6 where he worked as a creative director for 3 years, whilst there he was Scottish Designer of the Year in 2002.
Graham now works as a creative director at Graphic Partners in Edinburgh, where he has a range of clients from local butchers to global investment banks.
Colin Raeburn, GraphicalHouse
Colin Raeburn is a partner and co-founder of GraphicalHouse, Scotland, an award winning design consultancy that provides graphic solutions for corporate identities, exhibitions, TV titles, animation, publications and web sites. Clients include the BBC, The Lighthouse, Channel 4, EMI, Edinburgh Art Festival, The Scottish Executive and City Council.
A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Dundee University, he has been practising professionally for 14 years, during which time he has worked as a graphic designer for both public bodies and private consultancies. Recently, he has become a teaching fellow DJCAD, on a part time appointment, and current projects include web site design for a Landscape Architects, exhibition and identity design for year three of The Scottish Show promoting the best in Scottish and a book for the Réseau Art Nouveau Network.
He is 37, married, and has a cheeky 11 month old son who consumes his thoughts, home-made porridge and the contents of his wallet.
