If you missed it at the LCC last year, there’s another opportunity to see Alan Kitching’s outstanding exhibition at Nottingham Trent University’s Bonnington Gallery until 23 October. Entitled Alan Kitching and Monotype: celebrating Five Pioneers of the Poster, the exhibition features the work of five very influential designers: Tom Eckersley, Abram Games, FHK Henrion, Josef Müller-Brockmann and Paul Rand, many pieces of which are from Alan’s private collection. On Thursday 8 October, there's a chance to hear Alan talk about his life and work, in An Audience with Alan Kitching, which is followed by a special private view of the exhibition.
In the year the First World War began, five future friends were born: Tom Eckersley, Abram Games, FHK Henrion, Josef Müller-Brockmann and Paul Rand. 1914 was a good vintage for poster designers – Naomi Games
The show reveals the process behind the making of the limited edition posters forming the Alan Kitching Collection. It follows Alan’s journey from research and sketches, through the Monotype archive, to Alan’s workshop and the finished printed pieces.
